Great concept... But the plastic mouthpiece broke off almost immediately... And the screens clog up real quickly, reducing draw to a drag.
If IOlite comes out with a next-generation product which addresses those flaws and resolves them, I'll buy another one.

10 MARCH 2010: UPGRADE TO 4 STARS
The Iolite still works, and the design of the pipe-stem has been changed so it DOESN'T break off anymore.
BTW, when I heard the problems with the plastic pipe-stem had been addressed, I e-mailed the company about the problems I'd had. They quickly mailed me two of the new ones: no charge. That shows a lot of class and consumer awareness. Kudos.
Two tips:
(1) It's important to use a high-quality, triple-filtered butane [Definitely Not Ronson's!!!!!]... otherwise the Iolite will spit, sputter... and occasionally won't ignite.
(2) Grinding down the herbs to a fine powder is a bad idea. Dust quickly clogs up the Iolite's heating chamber so it won't draw at all.
Summing up: based on THE IOLITE'S relative durability [compared to the other portable vaporizers I've tried]... and the fact that the company rather responsively recognized, addressed, and fixed the gizmo's major flaw...

(More customer reviews)I like to think that I have tried many substitutes before finally making the push and getting a Volcano, and I must say I will never look back.
The volcano is the BEST thing you could ever buy. The Volcano comes assembled and ready to use, it is made with the highest quality possible, and it even comes with a 3 year warranty.
The is the most effective system I have found, and nothing comes close to how well this works. There is no smoke involved, only vapors thus it lacks that tell-tale smell. The only smell you get is a aroma akin to Jiffy-Pop.
Over all I must say I could not be happier with my purchase, and would recommend this system to any one else who enjoys the finer things in life.

(More customer reviews)I received my v tower vaporizer a few days ago. After a frustrating first couple of days trying to find the right temperature to use, I called vapenow.com for some advice. I spoke with a real friendly guy there who gave me a few pointers for my next attempt. On his advice, I dialed the heat up to 250 celcius, which had seemed kind of high to me before, made sure to let it warm up for 15-20 minutes, and lo and behold, the vapors started flowing! Apparently, the temperature sensor records the heat closer to the heating unit, not where your material sits in the bowl. Even though the temperature readout will hit your desired mark in seconds, it's still best to wait 15-20 minutes before using so that the bowl can warm up too. if you don't have a grinder, you'll want to get one to make sure your material has more surface area for the heat to hit.also, a slow draw seems to keep the heat more even.
Otherwise, it seems like a very sturdy unit. Incredibly easy to use. The 360 degree whip action is a nice feature, and the connector for the whip sits in the bowl very snugly. Also, the bowl can be handled safely by touching the black heat resistant part only when in use.It's also pretty small, and could be transported pretty easily if you wanted to take it to a friend's house.
Considering the famous volcano vaporizer sells for $539 and

Easy Use Premium Herbal Vaporizer with Digital display (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the VP-100 from another site for a very reasonable price. It was a replacement for my Vapor Bros. vaporizer when the heating element finally wore out. The VP-100 is a classic example of "you get what you pay for" - it is functional, but it is very difficult to determine the correct temperature to vape rather than smoke. You pack the herb in the female and attach it to the male component on the box. The problem is that you are tilting it downward to make the connection so the herb spills toward the heating element, causing it to combust so you are smoking rather than vaping. I quick-fixed this by inserting another, smaller screen on top of the herb to keep it from scattering into the heating element, but this is definitely a design flaw. Also, it is tough to determine at exactly what temperature to vaporize. The limited instruction sheet said 365 which I found to be way too high, causing the herb to burn. Another source from the internet recommended 350 - again too high. Through trial and error, I found 310 to be about right. Also, another article I read mentioned that these units are designed in China and it is unclear what components have been used to put together the unit inside - in other words, you don't know if you are inadvertently inhaling toxins from questionable, cheap parts. Ceramic heating elements are the way to go. American products are also held to a higher quality standards. My regret is that I focused too much on price and did not do my homework on quality vaporizers in advance. Incidentally, if I had bought it at the Amazon price, I would have felt much more ripped off.
