Hamilton Beach 4 Cup Coffee Brewer Review

My old 4-cup Mr. Coffee was a decent little coffeemaker and it lasted for about three years before it started to give me trouble. Technically it still works but the coffee it brews is only warm, not hot. So I decided it was time for a new machine.
I did a lot of research, and the fact of the matter is that there just aren't many good quality 4-cup coffeemakers on the market. I researched the models from Mr. Coffee, Cuisinart, and Black & Decker, and none of them got particularly good reviews. I went to local stores and played with the display models and all of them felt very light, flimsy, and cheap. Even the $40 Cuisinart was featherweight and felt like it would fall apart at any moment.
I've always had good luck with Hamilton Beach products, so when I found this one online, I had a good feeling about it. I did some more research and found that this particular model is used in hotels all over the country. That seemed like a good sign. Commercial grade products are usually built to a higher standard than consumer grade stuff.
So I ordered it, and sure enough, it's a major step above the 4-cup machines made by the other manufacturers. Even though it's made mostly of plastic, it is heavy and stable and definitely won't tip over easily. The power cord is heavy grade and has a 3-prong plug. The on/off switch has a nice spring action and seems durable.
Due to the fact that these are made for hotel rooms, there are picture-based instructions in white ink on top of the coffeemaker. If you are very concerned about appearances, this might bother you. It doesn't bother me. The #1 thing I'm concerned about is how the coffee tastes... and with that in mind...
It tastes great! It's very hot, much hotter than my old Mr. Coffee. But the water isn't TOO hot, so you don't need to worry about it making the coffee bitter and over-extracted.
I only have two complaints, and they are relatively minor: when you're finished brewing coffee and you open the basket holder to remove the grounds and filter, a small amount of water falls out and splashes onto the warming plate and onto the counter. It's not a huge amount of water -- maybe a teaspoon -- but it does do this every time I brew coffee. Just something to be aware of; have a paper towel handy and it's not a problem. My other complaint is that there is no way of knowing how much water is in the reservoir. Usually they have a little window or some other indicator, but this unit doesn't have either. Mildly annoying, but not a huge issue and obviously doesn't affect the coffee itself.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this coffeemaker and would recommend it to anyone who is searching for a good quality 4-cup machine.

Hamilton Beach 37532 20-Cup Capacity Rice Cooker, White Review

Hamilton Beach 37532 20-Cup Capacity Rice Cooker, White

On my first try, cooking rice in my new rice cooker, I used long grain brown rice and followed the directions in my Hamilton Beach manual - using so many liters of water with so many cups of rice. My rice cooker stopped cooking after 70 minutes (way too long!) and the cooker still had about an inch and a half of water left on top of the rice. I could have made rice pudding with the consistency of the slop I ended up with. I was bound and determined to make this rice cooker work for me so I tried it again, using the cooking directions on the package of rice instead. On my next try I scooped 4 of their (6 oz) cups of long grained brown rice and added exactly 8 of their (6 oz) cups with water. I added 2 teaspoons of salt and started the cooker. It was perfect rice! After 48 minutes or so of cooking, the cooker switched from cook to warm. After about 10 minutes I used the spatula that comes with the rice cooker and stirred the rice from the bottom up. I added a couple of tablespoons of margarine to the mix and replaced the top. The consistency and flavor was perfect! I now love my rice cooker! My mom taught me years ago, when getting ready to cook rice, stick your middle finger in the pot until the tip of your finger touches the top of the rice. If the water level is even with your big knuckle, you've added the right amount of water. I did the knuckle test before I started my rice cooker. It really works!

Hamilton Beach Aroma Express Coffee Maker Review

I'll keep this short and sweet. It started leaking in less than two months. I know it wasn't from being worn out; I only make one pot of coffee per day and some days I don't make any! I'm still searching for a 1-4 cup coffeemaker that is well-made because this one sure didn't impress me!

Hamilton Beach 40870 10 Cup Electric Kettle - Stai Review

Hamilton Beach 40870 10 Cup Electric Kettle - Stai
Average Reviews:

Researched electric kettles no end without finding a good buy with good performance. Picked this one up at Costco, trusting in the return policy.
I've had no thought of returning it: Heats fast, and the hot water has no taste or smell. Base is light but stays put--it's no effort at all to set it on the base or lift it off.
Cons:
* The metal outside gets hot. Fortunately, you have no reason to touch it. The handle is large and comfortable and your knuckles are protected from accidental brushes, so the heat of the metal is not likely to matter.
* The trigger on the top of the handle opens the lid. A minor annoyance: this usually flings a few droplets of water about. If you use the trigger to open the lid just after boiling, though, those droplets will be very hot. Fortunately, there's no reason to do this unless you're starting another kettle-full just after finishing one. When you're pouring normally, you'll be pouring through the spout and the top needn't be open.
